Alan is an award winning Director of Photography and filmmaker whose cinematography has received international recognition across narrative films, music videos and other screen projects. His work has received Best Cinematography recognition, along with multiple international awards, Honourable Mentions, finalist and nomination honours.

His recent work includes Two Shots and Awakened by Outer Worlds, which have received recognition across cinematography, music video, editing and experimental categories at international film awards and festivals.

Story First Cinematography

Every lighting decision, lens choice and camera movement is designed to support the story, performances and the director's vision. Alan believes cinematography should serve the emotion of the story and draw the audience into the world rather than call attention to itself.

Director's Perspective

Having directed award recognised films and music videos, Alan understands the creative decisions that shape a production from concept through to the final frame. This experience allows him to collaborate closely with directors or, where appropriate, take on the combined role of Director and Director of Photography.

Cinematic Lighting

Alan's cinematography and lighting have received international recognition, particularly for Two Shots and Awakened by Outer Worlds. He creates naturalistic yet cinematic lighting across narrative films, commercials, documentaries, music videos and branded content.

Beyond Cinematography

With experience as a Director, Producer, Gaffer, 1st AC, Colourist, Drone DP and Sound Designer, Alan understands how every department contributes to the finished film. This broader production knowledge allows him to light efficiently, communicate across departments and make creative decisions that support the entire production.

Production Ready Equipment

Alan offers a professional camera and lighting package including cinema cameras, vintage and modern lenses, wireless video transmission and professional grip and lighting equipment, providing productions with an efficient, production-ready solution.

Proven Narrative Experience

Alan's work includes the internationally recognised Two Shots, award recognised ONTIC, and Blvck Gold, where he served as Aerial Director of Photography on a production that screened at Academy Award and BAFTA qualifying festivals.

Visual Development

I begin developing the visual language from the story, tone and emotional intention of the project. From there I explore colour, contrast, lighting, lens characteristics, camera movement, framing and production design to establish a cohesive visual world.

I like to develop the look before arriving on set rather than relying entirely on improvisation. This can involve visual references, location considerations, lighting concepts, lens testing and camera movement ideas, while still leaving enough flexibility for discoveries during production.

My cinematography background allows me to take that concept through to the practical execution, from lighting and camera placement through to colour grading, creating continuity between the original visual concept and the finished film.
