Synopsis
Two Shots is a psychological crime thriller exploring how quickly fear, pressure and unforeseen circumstances can push a person beyond their limits. Set almost entirely inside a car, the film follows two people whose encounter takes an unexpected turn, forcing them to confront the consequences of a split second decision.
Directed, produced and photographed by Alan Vidot, Two Shots uses a contained location, controlled lighting and a deliberately intimate visual approach to build tension and place the audience inside the characters' escalating psychological conflict.
Director's Vision
Two Shots began with a visual idea, a night time car sequence I wanted to photograph. From that initial idea, I developed the concept and original script for the film.
I brought the material to Claire Duncan, who was interested in taking on the role of the lead character. Claire wanted the dialogue and character voice to reflect how she would naturally speak and perform the role, so she adapted the script accordingly, becoming the film's screenwriter.
As a Director of Photography, I had been finding it increasingly difficult to secure opportunities to shoot the kind of material I wanted to create. Rather than continuing to wait for the right project to come along, I decided to build one myself.
I took on the roles of Director, Producer and Cinematographer, developing the visual language and bringing the production together around the resulting screenplay.
The contained setting became an important part of the filmmaking approach. Rather than relying on multiple locations or large scale production, the film uses the confined environment of the car to intensify the relationship between the characters and gradually build psychological pressure.
As a director, my focus was on creating a cohesive relationship between story, performance and visual language. The camera, lighting, colour and sound were designed to place the audience inside the escalating tension rather than simply observe it.
Two Shots ultimately became an exploration of how a seemingly ordinary situation can change in an instant β and how quickly fear and pressure can alter human behaviour.
