Synopsis

Awakened by Outer Worlds is a visually driven music video exploring a journey between isolation, altered perception and connection with the world around us. Combining performance, atmospheric imagery and experimental visual elements, the film uses light, colour, movement and composition to create a dreamlike and otherworldly visual experience.

Directed, photographed, lit and colour graded by Alan Vidot, the project allowed the visual language to develop alongside the music, with the cinematography and lighting designed to reinforce the mood and emotional progression of the piece.

Director's Vision

Awakened by Outer Worlds explores the psychological experience of breaking free from a controlling relationship.

The visual narrative follows Corey and a ballet dancer who gradually become connected as two manifestations of the same emotional experience. The dancer's precise, disciplined movements represent the control and restraint within the relationship, while her transition into increasingly uninhibited movement represents the breaking of those restraints.

As Corey begins to recognise the relationship for what it is, the dancer's control begins to fracture. Her transformation can be interpreted in two ways: as the controlling partner losing her influence over Corey, or as Corey himself breaking free and reclaiming control of his own life.

The split makeup across Corey and the dancer's faces reinforces this duality, visually merging two characters into a single persona — control and freedom, restraint and release.

What initially appears to be a loss of control ultimately becomes an awakening..
